How to Estimate Your AP Biology Score:

  1. Multiple-Choice Section (60 questions)
    • Raw Score = Number of correct answers (no penalty for wrong answers)
    • Convert to scaled score (out of 50).
  2. Free-Response Section (6 questions, 50% of total score)
    • Each long FRQ (Q1 & 2) is worth ~13–15% of the FRQ score.
    • Each short FRQ (Q3–6) is worth ~5–7% of the FRQ score.
    • Total FRQ raw score (out of 50).
  3. Composite Score (MCQ + FRQ)
    • Add the two scaled scores (out of 100).
  4. Predicted AP Score (1–5):
    • 5: ~75–100
    • 4: ~60–74
    • 3: ~45–59
    • 2: ~30–44
    • 1: ~0–29

AP Biology Score Calculator Tools:

Below is a simple AP Biology Score Calculator that you can use to estimate your AP score based on your performance in the Multiple-Choice (MCQ) and Free-Response (FRQ) sections.

AP Bio Score Calculator

Step 1: Multiple-Choice Section (60 Questions)

  • Enter the number of correct answers (out of 60):
    • Raw MCQ Score = [Your Correct Answers]

Step 2: Free-Response Section (6 Questions)

  • Q1 & Q2 (Long FRQs) – Score out of 10 each:
    • Q1: [ /10 ]
    • Q2: [ /10 ]
  • Q3–Q6 (Short FRQs) – Score out of 4 each:
    • Q3: [ /4 ]
    • Q4: [ /4 ]
    • Q5: [ /4 ]
    • Q6: [ /4 ]
  • Total FRQ Raw Score = (Q1 + Q2) × 1.5 + (Q3 + Q4 + Q5 + Q6) × 1.25
(This converts to a scaled score out of 50.)

Step 3: Calculate Composite Score

  • Composite Score (out of 100) = (MCQ Raw Score × 0.83) + (FRQ Scaled Score)
(Since MCQ is 50% of the exam, we scale it down.)

Step 4: Estimate AP Score (1–5)

Composite Score RangeAP Score
75–1005
60–744
45–593
30–442
0–291

Example Calculation:

  • MCQ: 45/60 correct → 45 × 0.83 ≈ 37.5
  • FRQ:
    • Q1: 8/10, Q2: 7/10 → (8 + 7) × 1.5 = 22.5
    • Q3–Q6: 3, 3, 2, 4 → (3 + 3 + 2 + 4) × 1.25 = 15
    • Total FRQ Score = 22.5 + 15 = 37.5
  • Composite Score = 37.5 (MCQ) + 37.5 (FRQ) = 75 → Predicted AP Score: 5
